Building resilience through yoga

0

Resilience is an essential life skill, commonly referred to as the emotional and mental ability to cope with stress and difficult situations. We all hit some bumps in the road every now and then and have difficulties from time to time. However, these course-altering problems give us the opportunity to dig deeper into our true selves and build determination, strength, and flexibility in order to cope with the misfortune. Building resilience has tremendous health benefits. The key advantage is its capacity to reduce depression, lessen anxiety, heighten life satisfaction, reduce stress levels, and promote longevity. For these reasons, it is important to train your mind and body to deal with stress in a positive manner and build resilience.

If you want to ramp up your ability to deal with life’s challenges, you are in the right place. The following article deals with how yoga helps in building resilience and enables us to navigate life’s ups and downs.

Provides flexibility

The healing power of yoga enables the practitioner to master change by increasing energy, strength, flexibility, and business resilience. Yoga postures permit the mind to come out of its comfort zone and adapt to the changes we face in life. Having the tools to deal with uncertainties allows our brains to become more flexible, resilient, and comfortable whilst being uncomfortable.

The urge to explore the unknown compels us to do some inner work such as addressing bad habits, practicing mindfulness, and showing gratitude. Yoga sharpens resilience by helping us to manage our emotions and generate positive responses to situations we encounter.

Calms the mind

Performing different yoga postures tones the body and releases muscle tension. This stabilizes the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems and sends messages to the brain to relax. This relieves the anxiety we feel to be always on guard, and the nagging fear of what tomorrow might bring. The resilience created by yoga poses enables us to identify negative thought patterns and stressful situations. Instead of fighting or reacting to them, the characteristics of resilience help us to let go of them and tackle them with greater ease and mental clarity.

Increases spirituality

Spirituality is directly linked to increased resilience. The root philosophy of yoga concerns our inner strength and guides us to walk in the path of spirituality. This confidence, core peace and the emotional stability it brings helps our bodies to recover from stress and anxiety, enabling new and healthier patterns to enter our lives.

Awakens the cortisol response

Characteristics of resilience include; flexibility, strength and the ability to adapt to changes and cope with stressful situations.

Yoga helps in increasing resilience by awakening the cortisol hormone response. Cortisol is referred to as the primary stress hormone. Guided meditation, breathing techniques, and asana pose help to build strength, reduce inflammation, and promote inner healing to ease any mental burdens we may be carrying.

Positive habit building

Positive habit-building plays a key role in building resilience. These small habits are weapons against negative thoughts, feelings of anxiety, and distress. If you want to develop resilience, start with daily commitments. Show up on your mat, perform the guided yoga pose, focus on the present moment and mute the voice of the outside world. This will bring you instant relief and clarity of mind.

Yogis live a disciplined life that enables them to tune in to the mind and body. But keep in mind, that is achieved with previously built foundations that are rooted in resilience.

How yoga helps with personal transformation?

0

Are you on the hunt for a practice that will help you achieve personal transformation?

Positive self-change is the dream of every individual. Yoga plays a significant role in fueling your mind, body, and soul. It is based upon the ultimate trifecta of spiritual growth, positive energy, and inner peace. It resonates with the mind and inner consciousness and promotes self-awareness.

If you are looking for the healthiest way to bring positive change into your life, yoga is the ideal option for you!

Yoga brings a stillness to the mind

When you perform asana, your mind becomes still and focused on the present moment. The peace, silence and perfect self-awareness can ease and soothe the mind. It can help to reprogramme your thoughts, encouraging positivity and the ability to enjoy the present moment.

The physical practice of headstand and Lord of the Dance pose encourages us to pay attention to the current moment. Meditation, mindfulness, and breathing techniques further strengthen this effect.

The combination of yoga and meditation are powerful tools to combat anxiety and depression. They help us to identify our emotions, feel them and then let go of them naturally. Focusing on the present moment allows you to live a happier and more fulfilled life.

Helps to make better decisions

Yogic lifestyle is a system of self-development that helps us to grow our consciousness and get closer to our true nature.

It clears the mind and reprograms the subconscious to think wisely and intellectually. Yoga is all about setting and practicing good intentions. When you are mindful of your intentions, you are able to make decisions with clarity and awareness.

Improves the quality of life

The positive change induced by yoga plays a significant role in improving the overall quality of life.

It assists in personal transformation by eradicating negative patterns and incorporating positive ones. By keeping the focus on where we are right now, and keeping track of our emotions and feelings, we are empowered to bring about self-change. With the regular practice of yoga, you will feel a shift in your energy, harmony, and balance in all aspects of your life, as well as experiencing many other physical health benefits.

Gives you motivation and inspiration

There are so many benefits of change. Foremost is an increased motivation to perform daily chores. A change to the mindset in how we perform even the smallest of tasks, previously completed on auto-pilot, can result in enrichment to our day-to-day lives.

Regular practice of yoga brings about personal transformation. The enhanced self-awareness it delivers allows your true personality, which may have been repressed by the repeating rhythms of daily life; to shine through.

Awareness of thoughts

You can master your life by controlling your thoughts and identifying negative patterns. Yoga deals with the inner consciousness and allows us to dig deeper by raising true self-awareness.

In yoga, you calm yourself by muting the hustle and bustle of the outside world so that it becomes just you and your thought process. This is the climax of self-change and personal transformation. It helps to eradicate negative thoughts, insecurities, feelings of anxiety, and unease.

5 simple ways to achieve happiness through self-care

0

Self-care is defined as a series of rituals that enable a person to feel better emotionally, physically, and mentally. It improves general well-being, reduces stress, and helps the person to live in tune with their mind and body. In today’s fast-moving world, we hardly get enough time for ourselves. People don’t usually notice it until they are on the edge of a breakdown.

Think about this; when was the last time you did something that made you happy?

When was the last time you took some time off for your mental well-being?

Do you feel happy? Or are you fed up with living with the same mundane routine?

Self-care is not selfish. In fact, it’s healthy to prioritize your needs for your emotional and physical well-being. So many people confuse self-care with self-indulgence. The former refers to taking care of yourself, taking some time out to partake in the activities that you love, and prioritizing your emotional and mental well-being. Lack of personal care rituals leads to burnouts, depression, anxiety, and even insomnia.

Don’t know what to include in your self-care routine?

We are here to guide you.

There are many benefits of self-care. Even if you haven’t been practicing any health care rituals recently, you can still reap the rewards by starting with small steps. It can be as simple as going out for a walk, dedicating 5 minutes to morning meditation every day, having a gratitude journal, soaking yourself in a warm bubble bath, or lighting your favorite scented candle set. These small practices can have significant positive effects on your mind and body.

Self-care is a highly individual practice that varies from person to person. Ranging from bubble baths, and journaling to taking some time off from social media, practicing mindfulness, yoga, or meditation, or going out for a run

Let’s delve deeper into these rituals, how to practice self-care, and the reasons it’s so beneficial.

1.      Spend some time outside

Spending the entire day within the confined space of your home or apartment can be mentally and physically exhausting. Ditch that monotonous routine and get outside. It can be your terrace, backyard, lawn, or any nearby park.

Walking in nature is scientifically proven to reduce stress and stimulate happiness. It calms your mind and soothes your nerves. You can even join a local outdoor yoga class or try a new workout in the fresh air. Outdoor activities enable people to feel more energized, positive and less stressed

2.      Practice gratitude and mindfulness

Too often in the hustle and bustle of work, we ignore the blessings around us. Our minds are trained to always be alert, and thinking about possible negative outcomes, or just stressing about “tomorrow” in general. However, you are in charge of your life and you can shift the narrative by programming your mindset to see the good in every situation.

But how?

The answer is quite simple; by practicing mindfulness and gratitude.

Start your morning by dedicating 5 minutes to your gratitude journal. It can be as simple and quick as writing down 3 or 4 things that you are grateful for; perhaps the feeling of the cozy duvet, the smell of brewing coffee or the happy sound of your child playing in the next room. This easy activity has a plethora of advantages. Our emotional health and happiness are directly associated with an increase in gratitude. Having a gratitude journal will encourage you to be more optimistic, increase your life satisfaction and can even reduce depression.

Try this out and give us your feedback.

Practicing mindfulness includes guided breathing movements, visualizations, noticing your movements, and being aware of your emotions. It shifts the focus to the present moment and increases the ability to regulate emotions. If you constantly worry about what tomorrow might bring, try incorporating mindfulness and meditation into your day-to-day life. You will be surprised how quickly it will soothe your mind and reduce anxiety.

3.      Daily self-care routine

Feeling tired and burned out from the same hectic routine? Maybe we can help you to relax a bit!

Small habits create a big impact. If you are unsure of what to include in your daily self-care plan, we have a simple and easy-to-follow guide for you.

Start your day off with making your bed, completing your skincare routine, and taking a shower. Then dedicate 10 minutes daily to meditation and writing in your gratitude journal. Next, make your favorite breakfast, and turn on the diffuser. Dress up even if you are working from home. Keep a journal, call or text your best friend, go out for a walk, join a fitness yoga class and try to be positive.

These can become your new self-care habits. However, if you follow them regularly with mindfulness, you will notice a drastic effect on your mood and happiness.

4.      Weekly self-care plan

Practicing self-care has great mental and physical benefits. Your body needs proper care, nourishment, and attention. On the weekends, get a pedicure/manicure or a massage, visit your favorite salon, unplug from work responsibilities and spend time with your friends and family, have a movie night with your favorite snacks, try out a new hobby, visit your nearest book store or grocery store just for fun, get your nails done and voila, you are all set for the next week!

5.      Self-care and happiness

Self-care has a direct relationship with happiness and there are three basic forms; emotional, physical, and spiritual. Whilst physical self-care rituals keep your body in check, spiritual and emotional self-care activities will help you to achieve happiness, a sense of fulfillment, less stress, and an improved mindset.

This includes positive self-talk (sometimes we become our own worst critics), saying “no” to the things you don’t feel comfortable doing, cutting off toxic people from your life, keeping a journal for the validation of your emotions, and trying out guided yoga poses.

Last but not the least, it also includes being kind to yourself and others. Give yourself the time and space to feel things and manifest your thoughts. Remember to be easy on yourself and take things one day at a time.

Let us know what are your favorite self-care activities? Do you have a regular routine? If yes, we would love to hear new ideas from you!

Why yoga is a great way to boost up your motivation?

0

Are you looking for the best way to boost your willpower and motivation?

Are you tired of feeling dull and apathetic every day?

If you are struggling with procrastination and a lack of motivation, you are not alone. In today’s fast-paced world, many people find it hard to summon the determination to complete daily chores and tasks. Even things as simple as getting out of bed or making breakfast may seem like a burden.

Having a proper morning routine, incorporating self-care activities such as yoga and meditation, drinking plenty of water, and eating healthy food can help you to maximize your productivity and ditch procrastination. Yes, you heard that right! These personal care rituals consume very little time and play a huge role in improving one’s life.

Practicing yoga stimulates the increase of dopamine and oxytocin levels – hormones that are directly linked with happiness, productivity, and positive energy. Many people suffer from insomnia, lack of energy, and depression. They find it hard to maintain a healthy balance between work and family, socializing with friends, and neglect to take some time out for themselves. Fortunately, yoga, guided meditations, breathing techniques, focused intentions, and self-care rituals can help you to nurture the energies of your chakras and reveal your true self. This positive energy strengthens your core and enables you to achieve your goals. Sounds amazing, right?

Here are the main reasons that yoga helps to boost productivity and motivation:

Calms your mind

When was the last time you did something solely for your own well-being?

Having no time for physical activity induces a lack of daily motivation. However, incorporating yoga, meditation, and other physical exercises into your daily regime helps in clearing the mind, increases bodily awareness, and provides mental peace. This in turn helps to sharpen concentration and releases anxiety and tension.

Breathing practices improve blood flow, which helps energize the mind and the body. Above all, they deliver a sense of general well-being. If you want to achieve success, start by taking some time out to do the things that make you feel better. You will be amazed at the positive results.

Improves your focus

A lot of people struggle with the ability to focus. Telling yourself to focus on mundane tasks is easier said than done. Lack of concentration and motivation at work often create obstacles in achieving your goals.

However, you can overcome this by performing guided breathing techniques during yoga postures. This helps to provide mental clarity that rejuvenates your mind and body and allows you to focus on assigned tasks.

Yoga is based upon the perfect trifecta of concentration, relaxation, and alignment. If you look at people who have been practicing yoga regularly for weeks, months, or even years, you will notice how positive their lifestyle is, how well they sleep at night, their low anxiety levels, and their ability to focus intently.

The first step on the road to success is to focus. If you want to be motivated to achieve your goals, start by increasing your focus and concentration. Yoga helps energize the parasympathetic nervous system that is directly linked with increasing daily motivation and improves the ability to concentrate.

Strengthen the core

Yoga promotes better self-care by strengthening the core. If you are lacking workout motivation or don’t have enough time to go to the gym regularly, practicing simple poses can help strengthen the core and tone your body.

It also plays a major role in improving balance, flexibility, and endurance. Yoga comprises dynamic movements tied to breathing that are well known for increasing brain productivity.

Boosts your confidence

Mindfulness enables us to live in the present moment. It gives us control of our emotions, reactions, thoughts, and feelings. This is the key to a happy and healthy life. It programs your mind for positivity and amplifies the motivation to practice a healthy lifestyle.

If you are looking for the motivation to lose weight but don’t have enough time to hit the gym, don’t worry because we have you covered!

Practicing yoga improves metabolism, strengthens the body, and helps in developing muscle tone. It provides multiple physical benefits and keeps weight in check, plus allowing you to become more aware of your body. The increased circulation of oxygenated blood in the system further endorses good health and fitness.

Increased positive energy and brighter moods

Yoga helps us to focus on the brighter side of life. It encourages us to embrace gratitude, which is scientifically proven to uplift mood. It also motivates us to move forward to meet our goals. Happiness and success are interlinked.

If you are someone who experiences low energy levels, unhappiness, or mood swings; try this out. Yoga practices and morning meditations will help you to feel better, increase your motivation and boost your energy levels. Yoga postures are also known for stimulating the body’s production of happy hormones, which increases alertness and enthusiasm.

Improves sleep

The relaxation associated with yoga is phenomenal. It enables you to sleep peacefully. Insomnia is a common problem, but guided postures can bring relief.

Maintaining a proper sleeping pattern recharges your body and mind. It also plays a major role in being active. Yoga is scientifically proven to reduce stress, improve sleep and eliminate anxiety. Practitioners have an improved quality of sleep, helping them to perform better in all life’s activities.

Change your life with the motivational and healing power of yoga. If you want to reap the benefits, adapt the practice to fit into your daily life. It offers a unique sense of fulfilment and self-motivation. A yogi lives a well-balanced and healthy life. Try out guided postures, breathing movements, and meditation techniques and you may be surprised by the positive results. These timeless practices will increase your energy levels and motivation to achieve success in life. Yoga enables you to live more joyfully by eradicating negativity and training your brain to practice mindfulness.

How does yoga reduce anxiety?

0

Do you ever feel a sudden wave of worried thoughts and emotions occupying your mind and body? Or maybe you find yourself constantly having intrusive thoughts?

People suffering from anxiety have continuous intrusive thoughts and fears, and in more intense situations, they might also suffer from panic attacks. This feeling of unease and apprehension often manifests in physical forms such as sweating, trembling, shaking, insomnia, stomach pain, and headaches. If you are struggling with this, we can teach you how to overcome anxiety through the healing power of yoga.

Recent studies have proved that yoga poses, guided meditations, and breathing exercises help in reducing this overwhelming negative feeling. If you are looking for ways to deal with anxiety or how to help someone with anxiety, this blog post will be helpful to you.

Yoga therapy plays an important role in treating anxiety disorders due to the following:

1. Helps in recognition of thoughts

Anxiety may interfere with day-to-day activities. If you want to overcome it, yoga therapy might prove to be beneficial for you.

Anxiety is the consequence of the hyperarousal of the fight or flight response, a constant feeling of intermittent panic, and a pervasive fear of the unknown. Yoga enables people to identify the thoughts that lead to this intense feeling, face them and then let go of them. Instead of just rationalizing away anxiety, yoga therapy provides a safe place for people to build resilience against stress and intrusive thoughts. This helps them to calm down, eliminate negative thought patterns and relax.

2. The magical power of pranayamas

If you are looking for how to help someone with anxiety, these pranayamas (guided breathing techniques) are the best solution for you. When you see someone suffering from severe anxiety or fear, ask them to take deep breaths and focus on their breathing. Inhale and exhale slowly whilst shifting all the focus onto the rhythm of the breath. Such techniques are scientifically proven to reduce stress and feelings of unease.

3. Enhances mindfulness

Anxiety is often a build-up of negative and fearful thoughts in the mind that might have no basis in reality. It is the fear of the unknown and uncertain situations. Practicing yoga therapy, visualization, and focusing on breathing movements reprograms the mind to focus instead on the current scenario and helps to eliminate overthinking and rumination. These things combine to elicit a relaxation response in the body that allows you to experience a sense of calm and tranquillity.

Mindfulness

4. Calms the mind

If you are searching for the best solution on how to overcome anxiety, yoga is the ideal option for you. Yoga therapy is a well-balanced mixture of physical poses, meditations, and breathing techniques. These gestures reduce stress significantly and help in calming the mind. In today’s fast world, stress and anxiety have become a common concern. If you catch yourself having intrusive thoughts, get a mat, perform the yoga pose and start letting go off these unhelpful thoughts. If your mind wanders again, gently bring your focus back onto the yoga mat and continue practicing. Try using controlled breathing movements too, to help bring focus and for centering.

Hopefully, this information on how to overcome anxiety and how to help someone with anxiety is beneficial to you. Practicing yoga therapy, mindfulness, controlled breathing, and recognizing your thought patterns are the answers to questions related to how to deal with anxiety. Remember to be kind to yourself. You’ve got this!

How To Use Motivation Theory For Your Advantage

0

In the practice of NLP or neuro-linguistic programming, good motivation theory is taken into account in several ways. One of the more beneficial neuro-linguistic programming principles is the concept or idea of “towards” and “away from” personalities. A good and favorable motivation theory has to acknowledge the reality that each and every one of us gets motivated in so many different ways.

Definitely, all of us have two modes of operation as a part of the way or manner in which we function, yet oftentimes one is more dominant than the other in every one of us. Those with a primarily “away from” kind of motivation, would be more affected by thinking more about evading trouble or pain.

On the other hand, those with a basic “towards” motivational style would be more affected by thoughts of future prizes or rewards. You could actually practice or play with this theory, and also try using this knowledge to influence other people. So, why not use this test to determine which motivational style dominates your personality? While this is useful and advantageous for understanding and influencing other people, it is a motivation theory that is best utilized in affecting your own self-improvement.

Okay, try reading the following descriptions of what being a multi-millionaire can mean to you. 1. You can buy whatever you want for yourself and your friends, and you can also do whatever you want. You possess and own the beach house or mansion of your dreams, and your favorite brand new car also.

You now have the means to reach and accomplish any of your desired goals and ambitions. 2. You already have everything you need or require for you to be comfortable and free, because you are now secure and safe. You have the means to eradicate or get rid of most of your problems and difficulties easily.

So, you do not have to go back to your job or do anything you do not want to do or are forced to do. If the first description or scenario is much more appealing or forceful to you, then you have a “towards” personality. However, if you feel more motivated by the latter description, primarily you may have an “away from” kind of personality.

There are both bad and good points to those two types. For instance, they avoid problems, manage and handle things well, yet do not achieve great goals. On the contrary, “toward” people can be successful as entrepreneurs but sometimes get into trouble simply because they do not plan well enough to prevent problems.

But how do you use and maximize this knowledge about yourself and motivation theory to your full advantage? You can actually influence others more easily. For example, if you want to sell a new car, first you have to determine if they are motivated towards things or away from things.

For the former, you can explain what it can bring them or how great or fabulous they will look in it. For the latter, you might say how the new car will make their lives easier and will mean goodbye to used-car hassles.

The Power To Change

0

How do we find the power to change? The power to transform lies within us. We must recognize the value of learning positive practices that will help us to make progressive changes in our lives. Action is one of the key elements to a makeover. We must be ready to take action for all of the transformations in our lives.

For example, if you feel like you just can’t get out of your job and it is making your life unhappy, it could be the right time for a career change. There are some reasons why people want to change jobs, such as poor management, boredom, lack of motivation, and even a midlife crisis.

These can drive a desire for career change. Career change motivation is necessary. To advise somebody to change it sounds very simple and can be a useful suggestion. But when it comes to applying it to ourselves, it becomes one of the toughest decisions to carry out. It needs a lot of mental preparation.

If you have a family, that may get disrupted by the move. The income may stop for some time. The decision that you made may turn out to be a mistake. It needs mental strength to change jobs. The first thing that one encounters while thinking about it is, how did I get into the wrong job? What if my new choice also proves to be incorrect? What if I continue with my present job? Why should I vary my work? Some of these questions need the head to answer and some questions are for the heart, such as asking why did I choose the wrong career to begin with.

It could damage my self-esteem and I might encounter a lot of failures. Before thinking of doing it, one needs to do an analysis of life goals and decide how the present career does not satisfy those goals. After making a firm decision, you can think about looking for another job.

One must acquire mental and emotional fortitude in order to endure these changes and reclaim one’s victory. You must protect your mental health by taking time to figure out what it is that you really want from your career and life. To change your way of making a living can produce discomfort and worries.

When you are in this situation, you may want to run away and hide yourself from reality. Don’t hide yourself from reality. If your job is making you unhappy and you are not expanding your horizon in life, well you’d better take the initiative by making a strategic career move that makes you feel energized and lively.

If you want to be happy with your career change, it is your responsibility to make sure that you pick the right job this time. Spend some time researching and examining your choices. Volunteer, visit a site, and do whatever it takes to get as much of a feel of the real world as possible for the job that you are considering.

That way, you won’t regret your career change in a few months. When you are going through it, you have to remember that when you start out in a new company, you are worthless compared to your previous job in which you may be one of the best. You have to consider your position and the seniority of other employees.

Career change Motivation is helpful for making your mind open about changing to a new job. It is never an easy thing to do, but it can be rewarding. But when you are on the right path, you will love every minute of it.

Self Discipline: Unlocking The Doors To Success

0

Everyone wants to know the keys to unlocking the doors to success and how to master its various principles. As for me, it’s all about self-discipline. Yes, learning self-discipline, that is. Self-discipline can be a tough thing to accentuate here, as I can observe the lack of self-discipline in others.

Whereas, if practiced religiously, being disciplined can produce fantastic results. Okay, this is what I mean by that: Think about the person who can be the highly intellectual type, very optimistic, friendly and funny and seems to be the kind which many people want to hang around with. Well, you may know somebody who can be happy and exceedingly well, yet for some reason, they still keep on getting by, but with great difficulty—in other words, they’re still under pressure.

And if you pay close attention to that person, you’ll notice that the primary source is always a lack of self-discipline. It can be in the areas of their attitudes, how they manage their time, or how focused they are on their goals. It can also be how they communicate or how motivated they can be, or perhaps all of the above.

Whatever their underlying grounds could be, the issue of self-discipline is the most frequent common denominator in the lives of successful people. On the other side of the fence, however, consider the individual who “got it”. Yes, you know that guy who, time and again, excels at almost everything and exceeds everyone’s expectations. Yet he still has the time and energy to play as the lead guitarist in his own band and still has enough quality time with his kids playing video games.

Or you may envy that neighbor of yours who recently became employee of the month, runs a part-time home-based business, and still loves to hang out with her close pals from high school. Now, you are taking into account your own expectations, goals and life in general. So, whoever the person you want to look up to and which stories you want to be inspired by, you will notice that these individuals lead focused, decisive, determined, and most importantly, very disciplined lives.

They are firm about setting their goals and are very determined to attain them. They’re also very disciplined when it comes to handling and managing their time. And of course, they have the right attitude when it comes to their behaviors and habits. They are less likely to procrastinate because they respect the value of time, not just for their own sake but also of other people’s.

Therefore, you’ll see that when it comes to work, that person really works. And when they’re done, they can play/party/have a vacation to their heart’s desire since they’re already free and their mind is refreshed, devoid of work-related stress and pressure. In the end, it’s really up to you how you lead your life.

Just stay focused, determined and be decisive in whatever you want to achieve in life. Self-discipline is also not letting those petty little things get in your way. Thus, stay focused on your goals and get them.

Breaking Bad Habits Like Nail Biting And Cursing Once And For All

“I will cultivate healthy habits and eventually become their slave.” Thus said from the Scroll 1, of the hugely popular book by Og Mandino, which is one of my favorite books of all time. Indeed, to commit ourselves to something, we have to start breaking bad habits and develop new ones.

I read somewhere that as adults, we tend to become slaves to our habits. As human as we are, we have bad habits that we want to let go of, and there are also tons of ways to break them. Okay, for one, how about cursing? Are you guilty of this bad habit? Well, most of us are–cursing may actually begin at a very early age.

It can actually start from home, when the child becomes exposed to cussing and swearing most of the time. But now, as an adult, you want to be a better you, so what do you do? First, you have got to pay attention. Whenever you utter those indecent and scandalous words, drop some money into a jar.

Even if you need it for your cigarettes, just place money in there. This will instill in your mind that each time you have bad habits, it will cost you money. If you thought you practically tried everything, from replacing less offensive words, having a “swear jar” to counseling, I recommend this painful alternative only as a last resort.

Note: This one is not recommended for kids or teenagers; only responsible adults could take this sort of conditioning. This can be likened to Pavlov’s classical conditioning so that his dogs can work. Place a rubber band on your wrist and each time you curse, snap it. Just don’t snap it so hard that it marks—just do it hard enough till you learn and get the point.

And how about nail biting? If you think only kids are guilty of this, think again. Even famous adult personalities admit to biting their nails. Even CNN’s Anderson Cooper is one of them. Maybe some people do it whenever they feel fidgety or nervous. Whatever your reasons are, when you bite your nails, it’s not a hygienic practice. Remember that.

Just think of all that dirt coming into contact with your mouth. Plus, it injures your nails and fingertips. But you just want to say goodbye to your bad habits, and nail biting is one of them. What to do? You can keep your nails short and polished. When you look at your well-groomed and trimmed nails, what a shame it would be just to chew them off, don’t you think? And try to take your manicure to a higher level, like trying to go to a professional manicurist to prettify your tips.

Then, remind yourself that you’re literally chewing $20 off your precious finger. I’m sure you don’t want to waste your money just to satisfy your bad habits; your job is to fight your bad habits and not to be enslaved by them.
